Ipoh food Week 2

Oh...This is my first ever post dedicating to food, more specifically, Ipoh food that I had chance to taste over this weekend.

As I have limited knowledge about many food names, please bear with me if I name any food wrongly.
I am excited to share my experience of the food I had, and may be some humble personal opinions on how to improve the food.
I am not a food expert/ chef/ gourmet, but I think I have the right to tell how I feel about the food I eat right?

OK, let's stop all the babble and continue to the food.

Tou Fu Fa from Funny Mountain/奇峰
LOL!!Just realize the stall has funny English name. I like it. It is not overly sweet. I could eat/drink the whole tou fu fa and the syrup without feeling disgusting because of excessive sweetness. I am not a Tou Fu Fa person, but this tou fu fa is really smooth. Honestly, I cant remember the ones I had in my hometown or anywhere, because I rarely have it and most of the time I eat it
just to satisfy my sweet teeth!
See its name?? I dont lie!
We had it there last week. You have to queue up and stand at the corridor of the shop lot to enjoy the yummy tou fu fa or ta bao it back if u like! They sell soya bean milk too!

And in the afternoon, Mr T (my friend) brought me to Da Shu Jiao 兵如港大树脚,  and being touristy again! We came here under the recommendation of my friend who told me that this place sells the best Asam Laksa aka Laksa in Ipoh. How can I miss this food?!

Some random Rojak sold there. "Stinky, Pricey and not delicious" is enough to describe this food.
A lot of comment to this food: the Rojak source is heavily based on Shrimp Paste which makes it stinky, cheap combination of food, a few slices of mango (which is what I need a lot in Rojak) with sengkuang (turnips), tibum (cucumber) ,not even a piece of pineapple and a lot of cheap biscuit on top. *pissed* . I have to stuff all this down even it is stinky as I loath wasting food!
Asam Laksa
Being a Laksa person ( I have it everyday back in hometown now; everyday in the canteen when I was in primary school;almost everyday after/before tuition during secondary school), this Laksa is good, but you know it cant beat my Pang Long Laksa which can be found in Parit Buntar! Overall, I am satisfied with its taste, sourness, freshness and it is not oily as compared the one I had in Taman Pertama pasar malam during my first week stay in Ipoh.
Ipoh famous 炸料, fried food...
I only realize that the local like to have this food as side dish along with their noodles they have!
My opinion: Taste Okay, oily, unhealthy, I will only eat this once in a while/small amount if ever want to eat it again..
I sweated a lot while eating this with my Laksa...It was damn uncomfortable, when you are trying to concentrate on the taste of your(my!) staple food -laksa while you were sweating hard and all the oil was oozing out from every pores available on your skin!!

Zhu Chang Fen at  糖水街 Tong Sui Kai
So in the evening, after buying myself 2 formal shirts (for my intern) at AEON mall, Mr T's brother brought us to Tong Sui Kai to have supper! I love this Zhu Chang Fen as the sauce they use is sweet and not of those stinky shrimp paste (again) which is now commonly found in my hometown. I miss how the  Zhu Chang Fen tasted like this back then.. HEY..where all the delicious Nibong Tebal Zhu Chang Fen gone to har??
Ice with mixed fruits topping - 什果冰
The food is enticing with its colorful mixed fruits toppings!
I love fruits!
But, I dont like the syrup and condensed milk they pour on the ice. I prefer the ice is made less sweet or like those fruit ice blended drenched in their own fruit juice, so that it wont cover the natural sweetness of these fruits. The taste of syrup and condensed milk also makes my stomach stuffy!

Take 2. Trying to take nice pictures!

辉记鱼粉。。Dunno how to translate..Bihon vermicelli with fish.
I dont have much comment on it. Not something that can instantly invigorate my taste buds but I think I will come to eat it again if I have chance.
The sweet sour soup mixed with fresh milk is something new to me but it doesnt taste weird at all!

炖蛋。。Caramel custard
Not much comment also. It is Okay. I like the lingering egg smell it has when travelling down my oesophagus and the caramel syrup is not overly sweet (or I am too 重口味?? and i should watch my sugar intake so I wont have diabetes later in my life?). Personally, I like sweet stuff. So, I like it. But I wont LOVE it as much as I LOVE LAKSA!

And now, do you have any suggestion of the places I should visit in Ipoh and the food I must taste/test??
I dont want to go back without exploring this place and its food~~~

Angry Birds

Guess what?? Guess what?? Guess what I found in App Store when I came back from work??
Free Full Version of Angry Birds Seasons HD!!

wth! I bought it previously from the store with USD1.99 and now it is available for free. Feel a bit unfair lorr....

Usually I don't play game on my phone (any game). But since this game is free in normal version also (for phone), isnt it a waste not to download it now? You never know when will  the offer over and the price tag is stuck on it again! So grab it now before it is too late!

Angry Birds collection on my iPad.
See? I am quite an angry birds fan right?? Yea.. I guess so, but not on those overly commercialized merchandise. I still remember it vividly that when Angry Birds was in  vogue, everything was turned into angry birds form or with angry birds stick on it! Be it the children stationery set, coloring book, t shirt, plush toy, cake...whatever u can name it and it will be in angry birds form!!
But this post is not to lament on those angry birds that manage to infuriate me. I want to show you why I love this game and my achievement in it. (lol...I know there are many gamers better than me.)

Angry Birds Seasons is my favourite amongst all the other angry birds games. For me, it has the hardest difficulty as compared to the other games. I love this more than the other because of the pretty, bright vivid colored backgrounds in each season.  The backgrounds make my game look more enticing and interesting!
Angry birds Season with Underwater theme this time. See my GameCenter username? *winks*
First level of Underwater game. The birds have to dive underwater to shoot the pigs down!
And that means that you have to use a different technique to play this game.It is a completely new experience  to see those birds' path being bent away from  how the should have worked normally when flying across the air.
Cherry Blossom level of Japanese Style
I scored all the stars in all the level! Yeay  v^-^v
This level is unlocked once u completed all the level with 3 stars in Cherry Blossom! You gotta shoot down all the pigs with the only red bird. The purple floats surrounding the pigs do the trick to bounce the sole red bird zigzagly across the screen to take down all the pigs!

I love this season very much! I love Chinese New Year! I love the background music of this level! Whenever I listen to it, it feels like it is Chinese New Year again, even it is not! I remember I was  reluctant to finish off all the level sooner than the 15days of CNY ended...lol

The mystery level you can unlock once collect all 45 stars in this season~ See those firecrackers and bomb crates?

I love this greenish spooky Halloween season too~

And not to forget the MoonCake season. So surprised when I saw this update!

The latest installation of Angry Birds Games! The birds defy the usual gravity on earth and move accordingly to the new gravity they are subjected to on the new planet or in space with no gravity at all. That's what makes this game special than the other!

Candylicious styled planet~ The green pigs are shrouded by POP-corn and those corn really POP when being hit by the space-transformed birds!

Not bad. 90/90! wahahahaha....But where can I find the black feather as indicated above? I got 0 feather so far...=.=

You are the one who is going to be ANGRY when you stuck on a level and cant complete it with 3 stars!
I'm gonna concur you Cold Cuts level. 2 more stars to go!

The Candiylicious planet I mentioned just now. It is a doughnut planet of sweets, popcorn, chocolate & other sweet stuff that make you go hungry!

And not to forget the (Classic) Angry Birds. Though I less play it now, I am gonna come back to concur ALL levels (freaking more than 300 levels u know)  sometime.

Now, I still havent bought the Angry Birds Rio which is based on the movie Rio. I played the game before and love it very much. The design and background of the game comes from the movie and you know it is cute!
I am not sure should I get this game or not as there is less update now. Or u want to gift me this game?? Hahahaha..lalalala...

Bye. Enjoy your game and not to forget to download Angry Birds Season before the offer is over!

Here are the links of the game in Apps Store:-

Some June pictures not found in Facebook or from Instagram~

Basically this post is just to show you how vain I am the pictures I did not publish in Facebook or those pictures I only uploaded onto my Instagram. As I am loathing my Facebook, I have restricted many areas in my Facebook that now I only using it to read news feed from friends and occasionally share some i-think-nice-enough pictures from my instagram. U may also want to follow my instagram here: Kingsley90.

Ok...apparently these 4 pictures were taken at the same time, my study/exam week to be precise!
You know it is from Instagram if the picture is heavily filtered!
Every time I pose like this, I feel like saying " Y SO SERIOUS" hahaha...isnt that how the Joker smiles and says in Batman movies??
 Pure vain

This picture was taken the night before I left for Ipoh. I was having a Yum Cha session with my hometown friends in 井茶菊 cafe. LOL...it has quite a cute/creative name right? What more is that I was totally blown away by its English name, ie, MattaLiao.(direct translate of police station in TeowChew dialect)..sweat hard.

Taken on the bus while on the way to Ipoh!
Messy not nice short hair after bath...
Before going out to Sing K with my friend and his friends. I dunno those friends at first, but we got along together quite fast! Nice to meet and know them!

Picture from my 22 birthday~

That's all for June.  (oh yea, really??)

Being in Ipoh

It has been quite a long time since my last update...
I remember I was quite down during the time I last updated my blog, with all the final examnination stress (oh, really?) and some happenings that I take them quite personally, seriously and dont want to tell. (bitch please, if you dont want to tell please dont write anything about it here.)

okok...
In this post, I am going to tell you (or my mere record of my life so that I can look back upon later in my life) about my first week staying in Ipoh.

The reason I am moving to this quaint town is because I got a placement in a factory here for my internship. I am very grateful to my coursemate, Mr T, for letting me to stay with him and his family. Not only does my accomodation problem is solved, living with his family also means I don't have to worry about cooking, doing laundry, cleaning house! HAHA...Imagine how much inconviniences this all would cost me if I got a placement in KL!So, I must again say that "thaank you, thank you, thank you" to my friend and his family. I hope that my 10 weeks stay will not bring many troubles and inconvieneces to them.

Haha..Since it is Sunday, I don't want to talk about my work. If you insist (bitch please, I don't!), I will tell you what I did for last week!
I am assigned to Quality Assurance department of this company. All I did last week was reading manuals of my department so that to familiarize myself with the operation of this department before I get my hands working on my project. I have to complete a Project during this 10 weeks internship before continuing my last year of study in UM.
I must admit now that being student is best!! As a student, your have all time in your life. You can do almost whatever you want with the flexible time you have. And now, as I am starting to work routinely from 8.30am-615pm, I have started to get the feel I dont like this routine. I don't like routine. I prefer randomness, (doesnt mean that I have messy life) because routine bores me out! I am fickle, I cant sit still, I like freedom much....lol...and this has led me to start thinking what I really want to do in future...=.=..
( i am not complaining or wanting to critisize the job I have now since I havent really started to work, I just read so far)

As, I am writing this, only I realize that I am being long winded again...lol...please bear with me and continue to read until the end of this post.

As Saturday came, I feel so blessed.(LOL)..I have all time for myself again. I can roll in the bed until whatever time I like to, texting my friends in bed and then sleep back again, or sleep very late in the night!
So in this particular Saturday morning, I woke up very early in the morning (535am to be precise!) to download new The Sims 3 world in my game..=.= and went back to bed, listening songs and playing with my iPad until I fall asleep again.

Then at 12pm I went out with my friend, Mr T, and his friends to Ipoh some old obsolete mall to sing Karaoke...I had shouted throughout the session and blown these newly made friends away with my insanity. May be I should behave more appropriately next time, like being modest and sitting still when meeting new friends?

Then in the evening, my friends brought me to eat Ipoh Nga Choi Kai (chicken with bean sprouts)...ok..i shall let my pictures do the talking.

The food is nice overall. But it is just too oily.
I like how this bean sprout taste better when mixing with the keow teow soup.
Meh, nothing special....look at  the oil...
We ate alot...I dunno why people here keep asking me to eat when I am so desperately wanting to get rid of my belly fat....Oily keow teow, oily scented rice, oily chicken, oily bean sprout...argghhh,......
Pork ball...Is that how it is called? lol... Nothing special too, and I am not a pork ball fan anyway.
This is the place where we had our dinner..very touristy sport. My facebook friend and Mr T family later
said that we should have gone other places (less touristy) one to eat...

And at night, we had our Yum Cha session (wah I am so fast to get along with new friends loh) at Sidewalk Ice Cream Lounge.
This was mine. Rocky road Sundae...(suddenly feel amazed with my memory... I forget things fast previously, but now even this ice cream name I can also remember even after a day)

And in today's morning, I have to psych up myself to roll out my bed and being touristy again because I dont want to waste my time rolling in the bed for 10 weeks and go back penang/kl with nothing at all.....

When I say "being touristy" I mean we eat at very touristy places, touristy food, pay touristy prices.....
Hmmm...the fabled (at least for me) stall selling the fabled-ly smooth Tau Fu Fah. You have to queue to eat, just how I must do to eat the Pang Long Laksa at my place during Saturday and Sunday!!
OK...It is really smooth. I think this is my first time to ever tasted white sugar based Tau Fu Fah loh...I only ate brown sugar one before...
And we also got Da Bao the famous egg tart too!
The aromatic egg taste/smell is lingering in the mouth as I crunched on these crunchy egg tarts.

So, where should I go and food I must try ? Any suggestions from those who come from Ipoh?

To whom it may concern (me?)

Came across an interesting dialogue between Richard and Liz Gilbert (aka Groceries) in Eat Pray Love.

Initially, I just wanted to copy a few sentences and paste them on my Facebook wall. But doing so makes it so incomplete and inadequate and therefore I have decided to excerpt a few paragraphs here.

Enjoy reading - especially to whom it may concern!

"People think a soul mate is a perfect fit, and that's what everyone wants. But a true soul mate is a mirror, the person who shows you everything that's holding you back, the person who brings you to your own attention so you can change your life. A true soul mate probably the most important person you'll ever meet, because they tear down your walls and smack you awake. But to live with soul mate forever? Nah. Too painful. Soul mates, they come into your life just to reveal another layer of yourself to you, and then they leave. And thank God for it. Your problem is, you just can’t let this one go. It’s over, Groceries. David’s purpose was to shake you up, drive you out of that marriage that you needed to leave, tear apart your ego little bit, show you your obstacles and addictions, break your heart open so new light could get in, make you so desperate and out of control that you had to transform your life, then introduce you to your spiritual master and beat it. That was his job, and he did great, but now it’s over. Problem is, you can’t accept that this relationship had a short shelf life. You’re like a dog at the dump, baby – you’re just licking at an empty tin can, trying to get more nutrition out of it. And if you’re not careful, that can is gonna get stuck on your snout forever and make your life miserable. So drop it.”

“But I love him.”

“So love him.”

“But I miss him.”

“So miss him. Send him some love and light every time you think about him, and then drop it. You’re just afraid to let go of the rest bits of David because then you’ll really be alone, and Liz Gilbert is scared to death of what will happen if she’s really alone. But here’s what you gotta understand, Groceries. If you clear out all that space in your mind that you’re using right now to obsess about this guy, you’ll have a vacuum there, an open spot – a door-way. And guess what the universe will do with that doorway? It will rush in – God will rush in – and fill you will more love than you ever dreamed. So stop using David to block that door. Let it go.”

Final Evaluation

*** Still recovering from my recent happening***
*** Lazy to write a full post***
*** just to show a video and the script ***

Here's the script

Imagine how good it feels to enjoy in fame, doing things you like, what you are doing is earning you a substantial sum of income and you can do it at home! Don’t you feel envious to have such a job? Don’t you want to have a life like this?

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. My name is Kang Kar Kee. I am a third Manufacturing Engineering student. I am honoured to be given this precious chance to address such a distinguished audience. I’d like to talk to you today about the advantages of writing a blog. The purpose of this talk is to share with you the benefits you can gain through writing a blog.  I plan to be brief. It should take 9 minutes to finish my talk. I’ve divided my presentation into three parts. Firstly I would like to show you how you can express yourself through a blog. Secondly, who are the famous bloggers and what have they achieved in fame. Lastly, I would also like to tell that writing a blog can improve your writing skills. I know you will be curious to ask and I’d be glad to answer your questions at the end of this presentation. And also don’t forget about the refreshment that has been prepared for you at the end of this talk.

Ladies and gentlemen
One of the main advantages of writing a blog is to share your  thoughts with the world. Anyone of same minded can visit your blogs to comment and reply to your topic. This will encourage the exchange of ideas between authors and visitors of blogs.
Besides that, there are some people who are keen to show their achievements and experience. These people will usually set up blogs that aim to teach people. For example, those who enjoy bakery find sharing their bakery tips with others is rewarding.
Next, there are also many who write to vent their emotions. This becomes their personal online virtual diary and there’s a proof stating that writing can relieve emotions.
In addition, some bloggers enjoy recommending things.

Ladies and gentlemen,
Who are the popular bloggers you know? Have you ever heard of XiaXue? Well, she is the most popular blogger in Singapore and has been recognized as the blogger queen in Asia Pacific region by Nuffnang.
Before gaining massive popularity, XiaXue was just a teenage girl who used to write her diaries on blog. She  has gained fame by writing many interesting articles and a few controversial posts which managed to capture the public attention.
Being in fame has its perks. XiaXue now always gets discounted or even free products from her sponsors. And in return, she writes advertisement for the products that are sponsored by various companies. Through this mutual relationship, the sponsors get to advertise their products through XiaXue’s popular blog whereas, Xia Xue can enjoy using free products!
For your information, XiaXue is a housewife now. She is the best living proof that blogging can be a full time job. She earns her income by writing advertisements for her sponsors. Also, she works from home, with flexible working hours and freedom.

Ladies and gentlemen,
Lastly, writing blog can also help improving your writing skills. By constantly updating your blog, you get to learn how to use correct grammar while writing. You will pick up new writing styles and structures once you are better doing it. Moreover, the fascinating articles you write can promote readings amongst your closed ones and this is especially important to Malaysian who averagely read less than 2 books per year! Ladies and gentlemen, please be reminded that writing is a skill. It is a talent comparable to drawing, singing, sculpturing, etc…

So, that completes my presentation. I’ll briefly summarize the main points that I have mentioned. Firstly, a blog serves as a space for people to express themselves. Secondly, popular blogs can earn money and can become a permanent job for some people.  Thirdly, writing blog can also hone our writing skills and at the same time promote reading. As you can see, writing blog is profoundly beneficial. Therefore, I would like to suggest that we start to write blog and make this as our habit. I hope you will find this talk advantageous to you. Thank you for listening. Now, let’s see if any one of you has any doubts of the topic that I have just discussed with you.
Thanks for asking.

Last Lesson With Mrs J

Time passes fleetingly. With a blink of an eye, today is the last lesson with Mrs J.

It is needless to say that Mrs J is our inspiration and idol. Her sedulous effort to train and teach us so that we will become a better presenter has not fallen into deaf ears. We adhere to her advices and teachings intently.

In this last lesson, every student came prepared with their final presentation slides for the evaluation which will be conducted next week by another lecturer. Mrs J wants us to keep and maintain the standard of our language she reckons we ought to have. Hence, Mrs J and my classmates have taken the extra miles to work on our presentation slides before the final presentation day comes.

Of course, our works are not impeccable. Errors like inconsistent sizes of font, use of the non-standardized fonts, spacing, distracting/unprofessional backgrounds, grammar, etc could not escape under Mrs J’s hawk-like eyes. She is always meticulous in our presentation, especially this time, for we will be presenting in front of the other lecturer. She wants us to be professional and competent, to have less (or none at all) grammatical errors in our slides and to enjoy our presentation.

Throughout this course, she has always emphasized on our grammar because she believes that a good command of grammar shows how well a person is truly mastering the English language. Besides that, she also wants us to record our presentations so that we can view and come to palpable realization of the mistakes we have made during our presentation. And this method is known to be efficacious in teaching a person to spot the mistakes he/she does in a talk and hence be able to act on the mistakes accordingly. Like for my previous presentation on the ending of my topic (Katy Perry), I acted stiffly and tensed. I showed no natural hand gestures at all. I could see my hands hanging stiffly in their sockets and my face was taut. I mumbled through my ending with a rocket speed and as a consequence, my speech had come out slurred. I was quite discontented with my performance. However, I am grateful to Mrs J and the student (Soo JS) who has taken the trouble to record our videos because without them, I would never realize I had acted so unnatural that time. Though it is always funny and embarrassing to watch back our own performances, this is the effective way to learn!

Mrs J also wants us to have fun in presentation. Only when we are relishing in presenting, we will stand up and speak out confidently of our topics. Furthermore, when you know how to enjoy in presenting, you will tend to be more humorous, and thus able to captivate the audiences.

Back to this particular day of our last lesson. Mrs J presented with a bright yellow-orange circular patterned dress, matched with a beige scarf which was knotted snugly around her neck. The overall image has imparted an aura of bliss and formidable strength. When she smiled, it was as if I was staring into the bright sun, basking in her merciful warm radiance, washing away the lugubriousness that has been haunting me for these few days. Our class was ended with photo taking session with Mrs J. Though there is always reluctance in parting and separation, we did not leave the class with feelings of poignancy at all. At the end of the class, everyone was seen rushing impatiently to the front of the class to take their pictures with Mrs J. And don’t you think I would miss out this precious chance to have a picture with Mrs J who has inspired me so deeply?

Class photo with Mrs J. Can you spot her out of so many people?

Look at the big cheerful smile she always shows
